DIABETES, OBESITY & CHILDREN... WHAT DO THEY HAVE IN COMMON? by Lena Sanchez: "Once upon a time, sounds like a fairy tale and it is anything but, diabetes was a rare disorder in children. That is no longer the case. Diabetes is rampant in our children and grandchildren. What is being done to remedy this situation? Sadly, the 2003 The National Children with Diabetes Foundation had their conference in Orlando Florida and I read through their notes and so-called education with the hopes of finding out that someone was educating these children and parents on how to reverse or prevent diabetes.
The conference was sponsored by a whole host of drug companies and glucose monitoring equipment companies but I found nothing on truly helping prevent or reverse diabetes or even a sensible explanation of diabetes. There was everything about how to monitor and what insulin is best for what diabetes, when is the best time to monitor the blood and give the insulin, but nothing to encourage them to possibly reverse or prevent the problem. Don't know why I was surprised, as I should have known it would be nothing short of pushing their products. I was greatly disappointed that their education in prevention is totally missing!
These obese diabetic children are at risk for blindness, losing limbs and mental tardiness. All side effects of adult onset diabetes who start later in life, so what chance do these children have at being healthy starting so early in life? Not much.
Let's look at why diabetes is running rampant in the kids of today! "
